the great fruit fly war of 2023

my roommate and i have been battling fruit flies in our apartment for like 2 weeks now. and the fruit flies are winning. it's so frustrating bc they're just an annoying inconvenience, not actually dangerous or anything. we've been pouring boiling water and vinegar and baking soda down our sinks and drains and leaving out apple cider vinegar traps for the past couple days and i THINK it's helping... but it's so hard to tell.

we've never had this issue before but that's mostly just because we're both usually not HERE during the summer. this is the first summer we've lived here that we both had summer jobs and didn't go home to see our families. our apartment closed the trash chutes for like two months during the move out period which makes a certain amount of sense, but it's been SO frustrating and it lead to us not taking our trash out as much as we should. so that's probably how the fruit flies moved in. they should start splitting rent.

in other news, the new semester starts next week and i'm pretty excited. i'm taking some interesting looking classes! i'm a little worried bc i'm taking five classes and working two days a week (+ special events) which doesn't sound like a lot for most people but i really struggled last semester just doing the bare minimum. but i'm going to see how the first week goes and then maybe quit my job/ask for less hours or drop a class. my job is honestly so easy, i just sit at a desk and do whatever i want for a couple hours, but it's the fact that i'll be out of the house from like 9 AM to 7 PM that makes me a little wary. i'm not built for that lol. but i'm going to give it a fair shot!
